Safe Mode adds an extra layer of protection for your Craft documents by requiring confirmation before any modifications, deletions, or moves.

What is Safe Mode?

When Safe Mode is enabled, Craft Agent will pause and ask for your approval before performing any operation that changes your Craft documents. This gives you complete control over what gets modified.

Protected Operations

Safe Mode requires confirmation for:
  • Updating existing content
  • Moving documents or blocks
  • Deleting any content
  • Modifying collection items
  • Changing document properties

Unprotected Operations

These operations work normally without confirmation:
  • Reading documents
  • Searching content
  • Listing documents or folders
  • Viewing tasks
  • Fetching document metadata

Enabling Safe Mode

There are three ways to toggle Safe Mode:

Quick Toggle

Press Ctrl+S to instantly toggle Safe Mode on or off.
Ctrl+S

Slash Command

Use the /safemode command:
> /safemode

Settings Menu

Enable or disable from the settings menu:
> /settings
Then navigate to the Safe Mode option.

Using Safe Mode

Visual Indicator

When Safe Mode is active, you’ll see a SAFE indicator in the terminal header. This confirms that document protection is enabled.

Confirmation Prompts

When the agent needs to modify a document, you’ll see a prompt showing:
  • What operation will be performed
  • Which document will be affected
  • What content will be changed
Your options:
  • y (yes) - Allow this specific operation
  • n (no) - Deny and skip this operation

When to Use Safe Mode

Safe Mode is useful when:
When experimenting with sub-agents or complex prompts, Safe Mode prevents unintended modifications while you refine the behavior.
For important documents, Safe Mode ensures nothing gets changed without your explicit approval.
If you’re new to Craft Agent, Safe Mode helps you understand what operations the agent performs before they happen.
When asking the agent to process multiple documents, Safe Mode lets you review each change individually.

Safe Mode vs Permissions

Safe Mode complements the existing permission system:
FeaturePermissionsSafe Mode
ScopeShell commands, dangerous operationsCraft document modifications
DefaultAlways activeOpt-in
SessionCan whitelist commandsAll-or-nothing toggle
PurposeSystem protectionDocument protection
Use both together for maximum control:
  • Permissions protect your system from dangerous commands
  • Safe Mode protects your Craft documents from unwanted changes

Best Practices

Enable Safe Mode when delegating complex multi-step tasks to the agent. You can review each change and ensure the agent’s approach aligns with your expectations.
Safe Mode doesn’t affect local file operations or shell commands - those are controlled by the permission system.

Disabling Safe Mode

To disable Safe Mode, use any of the toggle methods:
  • Press Ctrl+S
  • Run /safemode
  • Change the setting in /settings
Safe Mode state persists across sessions, so it will remain enabled until you explicitly turn it off.
